♤ quite possibly the most hidden gem/underrated banger in the game.
to me this level is practically flawless, the gameplay, the deco, the song choices, and even the world building.
to start, the gameplay is the absolute best part of the level to me. it plays and flows perfectly and there isn't a single thing I would change. I would even say it's unbalanced but in a good way (unbalanced doesn't always equal bad!!). the first few levels are really easy and provide basically 0 challenge, and then there are some rooms that just spike in difficulty. to most people that probably sucks, but to me, it immerses me in the world it's creating with the first few easy levels, and then makes me lock in a little bit in. I first beat this without coins and thought it was perfect, and then later I rebeat with coins and now think it's perfect+. the coins, to be completely honest, are fucking stupid lmao. I dont wanna leak the secrets of the coins because personally I had so much fun deciphering the sheer confusion that this level is. the first chase level with John Lemmon is imo the hardest part of the level, and with that its still really fun. normally I hate speedrunning and levels that make you go fast, but the gimmicks and mechanics in this level are so well made, that doing it fast is somehow just as fun. the upwards autoscroller part is really funny but still pretty hard, although there are some skips/techniques to make it super consistent. and to end(?) the level off, you fight THE... JOHN LEMMON DXEX! this bossfight is actually really easy, just memorize a few attacks and dodge the awesome spike. this wpild be soooo boring without that awesome spike. the spike follows your movement, so it makes you think about your exact movements while dodging THE... JOHN LEMMON DXEX's hands. after you defeat him, the level ends and you sit through a perfect length endscreen with the goat underscores (siximpala).
now for decoration. koko43 has always been one of my all time favourite creators since her first rate. to be completely honest, I can't put what I like into words, but the world this level creates is just fantastic. the song choices exemplify this greatly and the difference between each level makes me appreciate each detail between each level upon reply. the gradual shift from absolute nonsense to connecting levels is really cool to me. the statue connecting to the sewers, and then the entire 3 ending levels. and after everything you go through and completing all those hard levels and defeating THE... JOHN LEMMON DXEX, you get to the ending. it's just a simple white space with an effect, but after everything it's just such a simple beautiful place to be.
overall, this level is, in my opinion, perfection. absolutely recommend this (although lowkey I think it's extreme)
♤ my very first platformer extreme! I first saw my friend montanso play this on stream and I immediately fell in LOVE with it.
I'm not known for having good takes, and I like considerably bad levels and when I saw this gameplay, I thought it was hilarious. long checkpoints, unskippable cutscenes, and blind timings. not to say those things make a level good, but they do make it funny. that funny factor carried to me practicing it, and once I started learning it actually turned out to be really good. its basically just all corner jumps timings (a big part of my skillset) and overall a very lengthy level.
decoration wise, this is actually really good for how early 2.2 it is. I love how it establishes that winter/snowy setting with the 3 checkpoints in the beginning, and having a very long dungeon exploration part. the trap design is pretty basic, and to me, sometimes just fall flat. the water rising part is just too slow to give any sort of rushing feeling, especially in the jetpack. however I do appreciate how many arrow traps there are scattered throughout (and the bombs are cool)
this level is definitely not for everyone, but I know there are people out there who will love this level. (recommended yessss
♤ considered one of, if not the easiest extreme platformers and with that it is extremely boring. deco wise I actually think it's great, some rooms fall flat (pixel stuff), but some rooms are fantastic. my favourite rooms deco wise are probably 5 and 7(?) (could be misremembering). however the gameplay is really just not my thing. normally i love needle gp, but tbh I despise cube gp, especially gp as tedious as this. the robot rooms are horrifically chokepoimt carried and overall the level is an incredibly boring experience. do I recommend it? only as a free extreme, not as a beginner extreme.
I like playing with toys and cars, I like going on the swings and making sand castles
I like classic lvls that aren't a linear experience
oughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
♤ for the longest time I had always thought this level was awful, I did a practice run when it got rated and hated it. but recently, my friend had beaten it and said it was pretty good and I'm like no way, so I played it a lot and eventually it got to a point where it became fun. playing this from 0 was honestly just a straight fun experience. unfortunately this level is turbo laggy so I had to turn like literally every detail off to play it. the sfx and overall vibe gives a great true iwbtg vibe that not many levels do besides levels like not sunspike. for decoration, it's like super bright and really glowy but honestly I fw that so hard I actually think it's one of the better extremes deco wise.
overall I think this lvl is super underrated and should be heard of more, and I would recommend
