Watch WHErwin's "Difficulty vs. Accessibility" video then think about what this level would've been like if it didn't have jump indicators. Do you see the problem?
At least in the first half of this level, I really can't think of a better way to represent Supernova than this. Just such perfect theming that some of these parts have more or less been implanted into the community's subconscious.
The red spirals in the 1st ship just feel like they'd produce that noise in the background. The fact that the average size of them changes with volume is even more perfect. The robot and UFO also just feel right. The art also goes well with the music and I like how the lantern lights up and you instinctively go to touch it like a moth (is that just me? Like you guys do that too right?)
The ball and onwards definitely doesn't reach the same heights though, if anything the ball and the dual are kinda out of place (and also annoying to play), could've been better.
2020 gdtwt warned of this
Extremely boring, bland, and dare I say it, generic, "experimental" level. There's something to be said here about how "being original" is unoriginal.
When I'm pointing out the issues below, I want you to keep in mind that I have a video of the level up on another tab because this is so forgettable to me I have to rewatch it
Box structures are overdone.
I've seen this arrangement of slopes before. I've even seen it used with D-blocks before. Where? Several levels
The structuring in general is lacking
Stacked spikes oh my god fuck off
Wow are those chaotic object placements? In a level with a frums song? WOWWWW NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE
This level "changes from part to part" but there's neither a sense of progression nor actual change
Did I mention there's a lot of copy paste
I know the precise level you stole that screen resolution "effect" from.
Did I mention none of the effects are interesting
I don't understand the praise this gets
He will never Geometrical Dominator with a more serious tone
The theme should NOT work this well. It's like the colorful plains have been taken over by some evil, nefarious force with dark castles and overgrown vines, while the forces of happiness and rainbows have to survive in the skies or underground, until they come out for battle in the last couple parts.
That being said, the lack of sync in the memory part really pisses me off. I have the same problem with the original Geometrical Dominator. It's such a perfect opportunity to have every note correspond to a pulse, so why'd you half-ass it and leave infuriating gaps? The sync generally isn't anything to write home about (though I do really like the waves), but the one time where it should absolutely be the focus is all screwed up. Also the level ends at an awkward point
incoming cheese guys
While some parts definitely haven't aged the best, I'd say most of them hold up pretty well visually. Gameplay wise G4lva and Serp could use some work (this is why I have trust issues).
However, it's not the parts themselves that make the gameplay miserable. It's the transitions. Why are there so many ways for these things to kill you??? It's not that hard to just put a platform or something to make them not kill you, and I know this because that's already in the level! Hell, in TechRebel/HyperFlame there seems to be an attempted transition fix but you have to click again afterwards. Why????
This level is interesting. It's a megacollab created back when flow gameplay was definitely on the rise but hadn't really "taken over" like it did later in 2020, so you end up with more or less a direct comparison between it and what I believe was a much better era of gameplay. One with much better visual sync and structuring
endlevel please decorate ride extension
This is the most EndLevel level ever made. Very EndLevel deco and song. Difficulty spikes scattered throughout but I think that's fine. Always just good, never a masterpiece at any point, much like EndLevel's career. I do really like the detail of the 3-4-5 pink-yellow-orange spike/orb pattern in the 2nd cube though. Also it supposedly has an unfinished extension not shown to the public, much like EndLevel
Good satire, not great though
Now you must DIE
Much has been said about this level, what it means, how it conveys that meaning, etc.
If you ask me, I think it's the perfect Lit Fuse sequel. That's my interpretation.
I could probably come up with something more advanced than that, but I'm too lost in the atmosphere of it all to think. Which is also a good interpretation of this level's meaning. When you're dying, you stop thinking. When you're about to kill yourself you also stop thinking. Hmm...
What was I talking about again? Oh right, Lit Fuse. It has all the same strengths Lit Fuse has with the atmosphere and progression and even some weird similarities, but not only that, this level is also above my skill level, so even if this did have the same gameplay issues Lit Fuse has, then I wouldn't be able to tell, which is certainly one way to fix that problem, yay I guess.
