Yesterday, I gave this a 5/10. Didn't really get why it was so highly praised. It's got good sync, but what else?
Now, 1144 practice attempts later, I've taken a bit more of a liking to it. Still don't really get why it's this highly praised, but it's fun to navigate your way through a chaotic mess of objects. It's a lot like playing PlaTef01ngf234j egh1: You can "bypass" just about whatever you want, take "unnecessarily" hard routes, do cool tricks, and more. There's no rhyme, reason, or purpose, you can just have fun with it, y'know?
No like actually what was going on with the sync here. Was it always like that
It's the number one
For my praises of this level, see Hyperbola's review below. I really don't know how to describe the good parts about this, it just "feels right". I will also add that this is the definitive version of the level and all the others (both the old version and the multiple remakes) are inferior.
However, this also has a lot of bad parts, namely the fact that the ships are all 10 times harder than the rest of the level, and while the memory isn't particularly hard it just doesn't feel fun to learn
"I really hate this level" well nobody else does??? Why'd you ruin it???
Listen I know it's Galaxy Collapse but seriously you do not need to sync to every little barely audible beat
Utterly incomprehensible, have a nice day
By its very nature, you can really only remember the broad strokes of this level, any of the finer details are a complete mess in my memory, and it's hard for me to support something like that.
With that being said though, the broad strokes themselves are really good. Big fan of the fact you can still "interact" with objects even though the gameplay isn't visible. Story fits super well with the music, when the green bird dies and the music gets less cheerful you expect that it's just gonna end up being a forest fire the rest of the way through, but both the music and the visuals start gradually becoming more surreal. Also the fact the text is unreadable but not gibberish is a nice touch and adds to the surreal theme.
Amazing atmosphere and theme, creative and well-synced gameplay, the famous coin, and nice little details like the ceiling, background, callback to the start at the end, and the deco in the first wave are all great. It's a shame that the vertical ball was executed so poorly because it's a cool concept and this would've been one of all-time greats if it wasn't that bad
Even though the update didn't change a whole lot, it still feels clearly wrong whenever you do see a change and I can't rate this as quite as high as it would've been without that.
That aside, anything without noticeable changes is just as great as it was back in the day. Beautifully crafted designs, gameplay, and atmosphere. I don't think I could really add much that hasn't already been said
Inconsistent joke distribution. The reason the jokeless segments in Twitter Squad or PLUSworld work is because they're uninterrupted stretches or only consist of a single weirdly high quality part. This just feels as if a bunch of people didn't really get the memo as to what this level was supposed to be like
