A level that's good almost entirely by accident and circumstance. Do not do what this level does if you want to be a good creator.
I'll direct you to Sobot's review for the good stuff within the level itself, but that's really only half of what makes it so great. The other half is more to do with what happened outside the level. The history is fascinating from start to finish, that's already one great thing, but I want to point to one specific thing that really hasn't happened with any other level: The first part of the drop and the double click part have both acquired names.
Names make things easy to remember. They have power. The fact that you can say "diamond dance" or "66p" and everyone knows what they are, well, that's something you can't really replicate, especially when these names came from the community, rather than being dictated from on high.
As for which version is better, the unnerfed has the spam, so I'll give it a slight edge, but this has better deco to make up for that. Both are 10/10
This level is what you'd create if you were possessed and the entity possessing you also happened to be really good at music sync. Just a completely deranged level, love it.
Really varies from part to part. Spiral dual is the big highlight of course, and the rest of the effects are all great (including the death effect at the start, play it yourself trust me bro) but the gameplay is generally lacking. A lot of concepts are either cut off after less than a second or are horribly unsynced, especially in the first half of the level. Also the "poetry" fucking sucks and is really distracting
This level always sucked. Chronexia did invisible speed changes better, but whatever. They're gone now, thank god, but that can't really save the rest of the level
It's Sonic Wave. You already know what this level is. In fact, there's a good chance you already know every little detail about this level, I certainly do. Maybe you don't think that makes it a good level, but I'd disagree.
This is simultaneously a level that needs a lot of words to explain why it's so good and also something that you can just look at and you'll understand why it's good immediately. I'm lazy as fuck so guess which one I'm picking
I've kinda gone back and forth on this level over the years. It has a good atmosphere throughout and the drop really just gets better over time, but it feels a bit too repetitive and copypaste otherwise (in a bad way)
Level best viewed with fullscreen off, brightness at minimum, volume at 4% or lower, and a healthy distance away from the eyes. And while I can say much of the same about the waves in Sailent Clubstar this doesn't have the whole "rest of it is one of the best levels ever" to make up for that. Not a coincidence that the first cube is the best part
I will never forget the feeling of pure awe the first time I saw the effect. The background sky you've been looking at all this time? The one you've seen for years and years, so much so to the point it's nothing more than an afterthought? Turns out it's an illusion, and it opens up to reveal what it's been hiding the whole time: Every End. This feels like a final boss to GD. I'd compare this level to Makima if that makes sense. Quite possibly the best effect of all time.
At the same time though... While the gameplay absolutely fits the theme, there's only so much you can really do with such a restricted palette, and it just doesn't stay interesting for 8 whole minutes. Gonna have to take some points off
