I've never been more uncomfortable playing or even watching Exasperation, its truly one of a kind impossible map and actually ahead of its time when you consider that most impossible gameplay nowdays feel completely robotic and artificial, the question marked jump rings and portals make the gameplay feel so much more surprising and engaging and I think quirks like this is what most impossible maps out there severely lack at. Exasperation is just so organic, unconventional, and even nightmarish to some extent. I was actually really terrified of its atmosphere and bizarreness back when it released.
And no I dont think this needs decoration, I dont even want to call it a layout because the geometry dash essence makes it feel very unknown and carefree, there isnt much to interpret here other than basing it off of how it feels and how it plays, at least that's how it is to me. I dont think any kind of decoration could ''improve'' Exasperation because it may provide more context and overall just demolish its geometry dash feel, the gameplay surpasses expectations every time as you progress through and I think that is something to think about. Just dont touch it, let it sink in its mysterious abyss.
Truthfully, I didn't have such motives to go and complete really hard unrated demons, I was always really satisfied beating maps with a demon face in them and so they felt rewarding. this is where indolence gave me a true change of heart, the gameplay is designed to make you feel frustrated and question your own decisions for you to go for it in the first place, it doesnt play like a normal geometry dash map. the balancing feels very thin, and the ending is just one of the trickiest and most slippery parts I've ever played. thats all working to its own favor because as the name suggests Indolence is a map that doesn't want you to beat it. you keep dying to the same spot in the mini wave over and over and then you start less active to go and keep playing.
It reminded me why I fell in love with playing geometry dash in the first place, its that feeling of power when you complete something you have spent a long time on, learning something and getting better and better at it just feels very magical and is a true spirit to have in geometry dash, which is why I think the creative oldschool design choices and the song choice work really well with the gameplay and the overall mood of it, I've already struggled with cycles a ton back in the day and Indolence is just a reminiscence of those memories. Everything is so colorful, everything feels claustrophobic, and everything looks like geometry dash.
Very organic, very thoughtful and cathartic.
The chaotic visuals mixed with seemingly tricky gameplay feels really satisfying, the visuals are a bit lackluster in some parts due to the object limit back then, but honestly it always feels like a breath of fresh air after you come out of a chaotic blood pumping massacre, and the spaced out gameplay solidifies that too.
Beyond human imagination.
The colors and designs are really striking, they really do give out the Lightning vibe. I also really like how some spikes are black and require the bg pulse in order to see, its like peeking in the darkness. this map is awesome
