Degenerate is a pretty interesting level that feels very “alive” - a lot of parts in the level are dynamic and create a really unique feel to the level. The faces on some of the pillars, the eyes, and etc all work very well together. The pixelation effect also helps the level have a unique feel as well.
I wish the gameplay had a bit more thought put into it though, as it can be a bit buggy at times. In many places there are blind clicks or dangers that are not easily seen until it is too late. More play testing could have really benefited this level.
In short, the decoration is unique and excels in this level, but the gameplay definitely isn’t the greatest. I hope that Jorbettt can continue his unique sense of theming and overall quality in his deco and raise his gameplay quality to a similar bar as well.
jawn is a pretty unique level. Its style revolves around creative use of colors and a blur on layers b1 and lower. Too be honest, while I really like this type of style, sometimes the use of colors can be a bit questionable - for example, the ship part looks a bit finicky sometimes. A part that I like a lot visually though is the first cube part. With the pulsating wavy background and the color her, part just looks very good. The background in the ball part is also superb. The gameplay in this level is alright, though sometimes the blur effect shrouds some of the gameplay.
Overall, a really solid level with good color use and a pretty cool effect.
Unearth opportunity is a pretty unique level. The creator managed to use colore in a way that is very vibrant without feeling muddy. I like to highlight the pause before the swing section and the swing section itself - the colors just work so well together. My only complaint is that the movements of the saws in the ship part look pretty janky and repetitive. The gameplay is also a bit questionable - some of the transitions between different game modes weren’t well executed, and the spider part is kind of buggy too. I didn’t really like the last ship part, it felt a bit too easy and repetitive, it might be better to include more gameplay elements into the mix. I liked the swing part and the first ship part though, it felt pretty good and fun to play.
Overall, the level has really good visuals color-wise, but the gameplay needs to be improved a bit. The creator did a pretty good job making this level look unique and interesting, and I hope to see more of there stuff in the future!
It turns out the creator admitted it was made only for creator points. I moved the overall score down to 0 (before it was a 5). I’ll still keep what I wrote before down below, but it doesn’t accurately represent my thoughts currently.
Alright. Before I give my thoughts, I want to say something. This review is based on how good this plays as a tribute level, and not the creator’s intentions while creating this. I don’t exactly know this person, so I don’t want to make any assumptions based on evidence that may be groundless.
The decoration used in this level is quite flashy, which is an interesting choice - I’m not really sure how it ties into Michigan though. The creator most likely chose this to create a more “dramatic” style, to accompany the text that is shown on the screen. However, I’m not sure how I feel about the text. Especially when accompanied with the “dramatic” visuals, the message seems over-the-top, and therefore looses some of its meaning. To be honest, I feel like the level would feel better if it didn’t have the text at all, and instead highlighted more things about Michigan. The level’s main theme is around the triple spike, though it would be nice if the creator added other elements that are based on Michigan’s works. The gameplay is pretty good, but the visuals hinder it a lot. It consists of jumping over triple spikes (using a red orb to make it easier) and these invisible floating sections. I wish these floating sections were more sight readable though. The level also has a pretty nice end screen - if you turn on hitboxes, the level ends with an invisible triple spike. This is impossible to see otherwise, so I want to think that the creator added this detail because the creator cared, but it’s hard to tell the true intentions behind this level (and we are not going into that for reasons mentioned at the top).
Overall, as a tribute level, there is a lot of work that could be done to make it better. The visual style conflicts with the gameplay and falls short too. To be frank, I just wish that the level better showed the impart Michigan put on the community, even to this day.
This level is extremely good in both art and effects, and has amazing progression. A notable highlight is right after the second ship part, where the level shows an extremely convincing 3D effect. The song syncs and matches with the level very well too. There are also a lot of small details across the level as well. The gameplay is pretty good, though I dislike the random changes in gravity in the section right before the wave. It makes the level feel less sight readable.
Overall, the effects that these creators accomplished are amazing, to the point where this might be in my top 10 effect levels of all time. They absolutely cooked
The visuals are pretty cool, I especially like the mountain part. The block design in the cloudy part was also pretty cool. However, the gameplay is just not good. I’m guessing this is a memory level, but in my opinion memory levels should still have some vauge indication of where things would appear.
Overall, while the visuals look good, the gameplay really tanks the score for me
This level is… alright. It’s a pretty basic story line, and doesn’t really do anything unique. The only impressive visuals ironically comes from the copied slaughterhouse, with the realism instead looking creepy and uncanny valley like.
Overall, there’s just not much special from this level, and half of it is just copied slaughterhouse.
(Points will be deducted for unoriginality)
While I can see the passion that went into this level, it unfortunately falls short in a lot of areas. The decoration has a lot of flaws, sometimes it is too scaled and becomes too low quality, sometimes the visual element just doesn’t fit. That doesn’t mean there aren’t some highlights though, the boss fight was pretty good visually in comparison to the rest of the level, and the 3d part was alright as well. The gameplay was average, though it definitely needed some improvements in the boss fight because it is hard to know when to click due to the indicators being obscured by visual clutter.
Overall, I can see the love that went into this and I love the ideas, but there are a lot of improvements that could be made to this level.
It’s a pretty cool thing to do at the time, but it’s not really my thing
I’ll give 2 points for visuals, because there is some effort shown from how long it probably took to replace all the objects with fading ones. I’ll also give a 1 to gameplay, due to the fact that the fading blocks technically impact gameplay, showing marginal effort. (Originality is being accounted for here, so I don’t think I can give anything higher than that)
This level is the epitome of “better to watch than play”. To start on the bright side, the art is really good throughout the entire level, and the use of camera movements brings out the song quite nicely. I wish there were more animations though, because it feels quite static looking past all the camera movements.
However the main problem with this level is the gameplay. It is absolutely atrocious. I can give some points because in some portions of the level there is some marginal effort put into it, but the marginally good gameplay id obscured by the over-the-top camera movements that it doesn’t really matter. Also, half the time there is no gameplay, and the player can just not click and still survive.
Overall, while the visuals are good, the gameplay absolutely tanks this level, and needs heavy improvements
